What Are Proximity Cards?

Proximity cards, also known as "prox cards" or "proxy cards," are a type of RFID card that contains an antenna and an ID chip embedded within the card. These cards interact with a proximity card reader to grant access to a facility or capture information.

Because the cards do not need to be inserted or swiped, they are unaffected by snow, ice or rain, making them more reliable than magnetic stripe cards and perfect for outdoor use.

What Are Proximity Cards Used for?

Proximity cards are used for parking lot access control, restricting access to secure areas, general building access, visitor management and more. They are based on a contactless approach which makes them an excellent solution if you want to improve your facility's access control and security.
